Anthony "Top" Topham was the first lead guitarist of The Yardbirds, an original member from late May 1963 (at their first performance, as a backup band for Cyril Davies) to Oct 1963, when Eric Clapton replaced him. He is on none of their commercially released studio recordings. He died on January 23rd, at age 75. // TOPHAM recalled, "I was only 15 then, three or four years younger than the rest, and there was no way my parents would let me go out five or six nights a week to play music, even though I was already bringing home double what my father was earning. I was going on to Epsom Art School and they wanted me to take it seriously. Eric Clapton was the obvious person to replace me {Topham knew him from art school}." // * - on the archival "The Original Fleetwood Mac" album, released on English CBS in May 1971 - various outtakes recorded in 1967–1968.

Comment:
This song was "borrowed" (COUGH, COUGH, clearing of throat) from a 1961 single by Don And Bob {Don Level & Bob Love, from Wichita, NE}. Don & Bob never received royalties because somehow Arc (the publishing company for Chess/ Checker/ Argo Records) had copyrighted it but confused this song with the Sonny Boy Williamson song. // Click on the Link above, LEFT to view the original UK single; Click on the Link above, RIGHT to view the Don And Bob single. SCROLL down to read the Comments, they are quite fascinating.
* - he also wrote 'For Your Love' and 'Heart Full Of Soul', their previous two singles / Music critic Cub Koda described this as a "minor-key pop classic" and Beck's solo as "equal parts classical and James Bond soundtrack"
