Elvin Bishop (Butterfield Blues Band, Elvin Bishop Group) Interview Show Guitarist Elvin Bishop began his professional career in the early '60s in Chicago by hooking up with harmonica player Paul Butterfield and second guitarist Michael Bloomfield (later of Dylan's band as well as The Electric Flag) to form the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, a blues and rock hybrid. Their lengthy raga informed track from 1966, "East-West," is lauded as having influenced many an acid-tinged rock group. Elvin left after four LPs to form his own group, whose popular high water mark was their 1976 #3 top hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love." But Elvin has not let up for all these years since, continuing to release both gritty and rollicking blues albums along the way.
